Justin Lam
Chair

Justin became interested in appellate litigation because of its role in shaping the laws and public policies that affect historically marginalized communities. That led him, in his third year of law school, to become part of the inaugural class of The Appellate Project mentees.

Justin has been a member of the Board since 2021, and served as treasurer prior to his current role as Board chair.

Justin Lam currently serves as counsel in the Voting Rights and Elections Program at the Brennan Center for Justice. He clerked for Hon. John P. Howard III on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and Hon. Nina R. Morrison on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He also worked to advance children's rights in education and juvenile justice as a public interest fellow at the National Center for Youth Law.

Justin earned his law degree and master of public policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before attending UC Berkeley, Justin was a New York City fifth-grade teacher and managed digital, data, and operations for nearly six years at an education advocacy organization.
