Justin Lam
Co-Chair

Justin became interested in appellate litigation because of its role in shaping the laws and public policies that affect historically marginalized communities. In his third year of law school, Justin was selected to be part of the inaugural class of The Appellate Project mentees. Justin has been a member of the Board since 2021. He served as treasurer prior to being elected co-chair in 2023.

Justin is a current judicial law clerk for a state appellate court, and recently completed a clerkship at a U.S. District Court. Prior to clerking, he completed a public interest fellowship at the National Center for Youth Law, where he worked on litigation and advocacy concerning public systems that serve vulnerable children.

Justin graduated in 2021 with a J.D. and Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Justin was an editor for the California Law Review and interned at the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Labor, Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and National Center for Youth Law.

Prior to UC Berkeley, Justin was a New York City fifth-grade teacher and managed digital, data, and operations at an education advocacy organization. Justin was also a founding member of the National Young Professionals Council of the American Red Cross.
