Limitations on Use of Sensitive Personal Information
The Appellate Project (“TAP”) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who engages with our organization—whether by visiting our website, subscribing to our communications, participating in programs, volunteering, or making a donation.
We recognize that some personal information individuals choose to share with us may be considered sensitive under applicable privacy laws. This can include data such as racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, union membership, health information, financial account details, or any other category defined as “sensitive personal information” under law.
TAP only collects or processes such information when it is voluntarily provided and necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was given—for example, processing a donation, providing program updates, responding to an inquiry, or fulfilling grant-related reporting requirements.
Individuals have the right to request that TAP limit the use and disclosure of their sensitive personal information. Upon receiving such a request, TAP will restrict use of that information to only what is necessary to:
Provide the services, communications, or benefits requested by the individual;
Comply with legal, regulatory, or audit obligations; or
Protect against fraud, security threats, or misuse.
TAP does not sell, rent, or share sensitive personal information for marketing, advertising, or profiling purposes. We will not use or disclose this information for any additional purpose without the individual’s explicit consent.
To exercise this right, individuals may contact us at admin@taplaw.org with the subject line “Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information.” We will acknowledge and process all verified requests promptly and in accordance with applicable law.
